How to determine if it’s a right water pump for your aquarium tank?

The First Step: you need to decide the suggested flow multiples of your tank.Mainly we divide tanks to three types: FOT, LPS an SPS.Suggested Flow Rate Multiples:

  • FOT(Fish Only Tank): 8~10 times of the tank's water volume.
  • "li"LPS(Large Polyp Stony Corals):2~3 times of the tank's water volume.
  • SPS (Small Polyp Stony Corals):3~5 times of the tank's water volume.

The Second Step:know the actual required flow for your tank which is different for different types of tanks and calculate the applicable pump flow rate.

Here's the formula for you to calculate:

  • Actual required flow(approx.)=water volume in tank(gallon)* (1+20%)*suggested multiple of different tanks
  • Applicable pump flow rate(approx.)=Actual required flow+530gallon

For example:

Applicable pump flow rate:100gallon*(1*20%)*8=160 GPH; 160GPH+530gallon=690GPH
